Are you as happy naturally as you would like to be?
We believe that everyone deserves to be happy naturally.
Here are 9 practices that we incorporate into our every-day lives to help support Happiness.
Be Present
Are you as happy as you would like to be? We believe that everybody deserves to be happy. Often what keeps us from achieving true happiness is when we are dwelling in the past or thinking about the future. Doing so keeps us distracted from the moment that we are actually experiencing, therefore taking away from the happiness that we could be enjoying.
When you notice your mind begin to stray… focus on your breath. Allow it to be your anchor into the present. Take 3 deep breaths and if you don’t feel more grounded, take some more until relaxation kicks in.
You can also practice being present by focusing on your senses. The smells around you, noises, the clothing on your body, looking at what and who is around you. Take time to soak it in. Get out of your head and get into your heart.
Accept Responsibility and Take Action
Happiness has been and always will be a choice. We decide how we would like to feel in each new moment. Accepting this responsibility as our own brings true power into our lives by helping us to realize all of the ways that we can control our emotions and take conscious action.
If there is a time where emotions are heavy and happiness is hard to choose – embrace your feelings and allow yourself to feel them fully. Then remind yourself that they shall pass. You can allow yourself to feel down, but also give yourself the same potential to be happy.
Focus on the positive, the blessings in your life – no matter how small. Live in gratitude for the fact that you have lungs that allow you to breathe, food on your table, and a roof over your head. Switching your perspective in this way helps to relieve feelings of lack and can therefore help fulfill you to feel happier.
Spend time in nature
Nature is fuel for the soul. In various studies, it?s been reported that being in nature for just 20 minutes a day is enough to significantly boost our energetic and emotional levels. If you live somewhere that makes it hard to be able to enjoy the outdoors, listen to sounds of nature and you can still receive similar benefits. Waves crashing, birds chirping, breeze swaying, explore?sounds and places that make you happiest.
Take Care of Yourself
It?s hard to pour from an empty glass. We must gift ourselves self-love everyday. Be aware of your self-talk. Is it kind? Are you nourishing yourself? Whether it be with the foods you eat, the people you surround yourself with, the activities you do throughout the day. Take notice if these different factors are honoring your highest good. Do at least 1 activity a day that makes you truly happy.
Self-care isn’t selfish, it?s necessary.
Make Adjustments
If there are habits or lifestyle attributes that make you unhappy, let go of them or shift them. Many times, we don?t realize the toxicity in our lives because we become so accustomed to it. By practicing being present, and growing awareness, we can bring important realizations to light. Remember, your happiness should be a priority.
Be of Service
Mahatman Gandhi said, ?The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.? It always feels good to help. Whether it be helping a person, an animal, organization, or even a place. Your genuine help sends ripples of positive energy beyond what the eyes can even see.
Choose Uplifting Relationships
Surround yourself with people who lift your spirits high! Spend time with family and friends. Take advantage of the time that you have with them to create beautiful memories.
On the other hand, if there is someone in your life whom you notice tends to drain your energy when you’re in contact with them, consider expressing your feelings to them, set healthy boundaries, or create distance.
The people who truly desire to be in your life will rise to the occasion and honor your efforts?to be happy.
Exercise
You know the good feelings you receive after a great workout? They?re always available to you! In fact, the human body was designed to move! So it makes sense that our brains and mood levels feel rewarded when we do so.
When you?re feeling down, try going for a walk, run, to a class, do some yoga, put music on and dance, whatever will allow you to move stagnant energy!
Smile More
Ah, the simple act of smiling. A small gesture that can generate greatness.
In fitness classes the teacher will often remind you to smile. This is partly because smiling sends a mental note to your brain that even if you’re not feeling it – you are showing signs of happiness. Somewhat of a Jedi-mind trick for yourself.
Another great example is if you have a profession that requires you to be on the phone a lot. It?s said that you can ?hear? when someone is smiling. When you remind yourself to smile as you are speaking, it can help you to sound more upbeat, which makes even a dull conversation more enjoyable.
Also when in public and passing by others, the simplicity of a smile can change a person?s entire mood and vice versa. Perhaps people have been complaining to you all day, but then a stranger shines their smile your way and it serves as a relief and breath of fresh air. Your own smile is just that powerful as well.
Overall there are many ways to create and embrace happiness in your life. If there are practices you have for yourself that you feel others should also know, please share. We love to hear from you and strive to support happy and healthy living!
