Eating Healthy helps You Live Longer
All of us can benefit from eating healthy nutritious foods. This is because every human body needs to receive a wide variety of vitamins, minerals, phytonutrients, and amino acids to sustain itself and function properly. To eat certain foods help us to live longer and healthier lifestyles while other foods can shorten our life-span.
Believe it or not, our diet is the #1 cause of premature death and the #1 cause of disability. The greatest disease burden?being?attributed to high blood pressure.
In 1903, Thomas Edison predicted that the ?doctor of the future will give no medicine, but will instruct his patient in the care of the human frame in diet and in the cause and prevention of diseases.?
We are what we eat so if we are eating healthy, we will be well.
It is crucial to get sufficient nutrition on a daily basis. Through proper nutrition, a lot is?achieved: fitness, mental clarity, and a sense of confidence and personal empowerment.
So which foods will help us achieve life-long wellness?
We recommend eating healthy ingredients that are naturally provided by the Earth. Avoid processed foods and incorporate whole, organic foods.
Raw, whole, plant-based foods (those consumed in their natural, unrefined state) provide us with the enzymes and life-force energy that we need to survive and thrive. By eating this way, our nutritional needs are easily met.
You may have heard the phrase, ?Eat the Rainbow? and it is a great guide and reminder to include as much color as you can onto your plate. When preparing a meal, ask yourself, what can I add to make this even healthier? Consume a well balanced variety of foods.
You can expect many positive benefits from eating healthfully. Eating natural whole foods from the earth strengthens your immune system and increases energy. When our body is energized, we feel good and are better able to protect ourselves from sickness and even cope with stress.
What does Science tell Us?
For a more scientific look into why and how this benefits us, we?d like to share with you a study funded in part by the US Department of Defense.
They found that three months of whole-food, plant based nutrition and other healthy changes could significantly boost telomerase activity, the only intervention ever shown to do so.
What are telomerase you ask? In each of your cells, you have 46 strands of DNA coiled into chromosomes. At the tip of each chromosome, there?s a tiny cap called telomere, which keeps your DNA from unraveling and fraying. Telomeres are the part of your DNA that have been thought of as your life ?fuse?.
The study was published in one of the most prestigious medical journals in the world. The editorial concluded that this study should, ?encourage people to adopt a healthy lifestyle in order to avoid or combat cancer and age-related diseases.?
Defy Aging
A?five year follow up study was recently published studying?the lengths of the participants telomeres.?In the control group (the group of participants who didn’t change their lifestyles) their telomeres predictably shrank with age. But for the healthy-living group, not only did their telomeres shrink less, they grew. Five years later, their telomeres were even longer on average than when they started, which suggests that a healthy lifestyle and diet can boost telomerase enzyme activity and reverse cellular aging. Meaning that you can literally defy the aging process through what you eat!
The key ingredient is the quality, not quantity, of the food eaten. Eating fruits, vegetables, and other antioxidant rich foods has been associated with longer protective telomeres.
Remember always to consult with your health-care provider if you have any doubt about your condition or suspect that you need to limit certain food items.
